Founded in 2003, Hysytech is an engineering company specialized in the design, development, and industrial implementation of new technologies and turnkey process equipment.
Hysytech’s capabilities range from expertise in chemical and process engineering to commissioning, monitoring, and maintenance.
The company primarily operates in the field of industrial gas generation, treatment, and recovery of organic liquids and energy, adhering to top-tier engineering practices in the plant industry. This includes the implementation of their own technologies for biomethane, bio-LNG, and hydrogen, seizing innovation opportunities, developing them into high-value products and technologies for the global market.
H2Genio represents Hysytech’s technology for low-pressure Steam Reforming, used for high-purity hydrogen production. This process utilizes Natural Gas and biomethane with very low electrical demand, resulting in minimal installation and operating costs.
Hysytech is a leader in applications for upgrading biogas to biomethane and for purifying and liquefying biomethane to produce Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) or, for smaller scales, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
Hysytech’s hybrid process optimizes water scrubbing and membrane treatment, avoiding additional pretreatments and minimizing operational costs and environmental impact of activated carbons. The biogas undergoes water scrubbing without any chemical additives in a closed-loop system, followed by membrane separation where CO2 permeates faster than methane, resulting in biomethane meeting network specifications.
Hysytech, together with Stirling Cryogenics, a Dutch company and part of the same group since 2018, focuses significantly on new Bio-LNG applications, yielding substantial achievements.
Hysytech’s bio-LNG production technology integrates biometane purification and necessary cooling cycles for liquefaction. Over the past decade, they have successfully implemented numerous plants across Italy, France, Spain, Sweden, processing from both FORSU (Organic Fraction of Municipal Solid Waste) and agricultural biomass, ranging from 150 to 1,500 Sm3/h.
A notable accomplishment in 2022 includes the contract awarded by Edison Spa for the construction of two integrated biogas upgrading and biomethane liquefaction plants for bio-LNG production. Each plant will produce up to 6 tons per day (tpd) of bio-LNG from FORSU.
