Piedmont ranks first in photovoltaic energy production and third in “virtuousness,” which refers to the ratio between actual and expected energy production.

Regional Environment and Energy Councillor Matteo Marnati asserts that “we are only at the beginning of a path that will lead us to triple this figure by 2030” and describes it as “a result that reflects a reality already geared towards the development of renewable sources, which will be further enhanced by the actions we have initiated to achieve the European targets for 2030. This began with the approval of the Environmental Energy Plan on March 15, structured around four key directions: development of renewable energy sources, reduction of energy consumption, development of the green economy, and the definitive establishment of a distributed generation model, which will particularly favor the development of energy communities. A model that will, in parallel with achieving the Agenda 2030 goals, also enable us to reach as much energy autonomy as possible.”

Energy communities are a strong point of regional policy: Piedmont was the first region to initiate this experience with the approval of a dedicated regional law. Since December 2020, provisions and incentives have been in place to develop collective self-consumption systems from renewable sources, and currently, energy communities are successfully being tested in four areas.
