A study by Aceper (Association of Consumers and Producers of Renewable Energy) on a sample of over 5,000 photovoltaic systems located across Italy places Piedmont in first place for energy production from photovoltaics and third for “virtuosity,” meaning the ratio between actual energy produced and expected energy in terms of production.
Regional Environment and Energy Assessor Matteo Marnati states, “We are only at the beginning of a journey that will lead us to triple this figure by 2030” and describes it as “a result that reflects a reality already focused on the development of renewable sources, which will be further enhanced by the actions we have initiated to achieve the European targets by 2030. We started with the approval, on March 15, of the Energy and Environmental Plan, structured around four fundamental pillars: development of renewable energy sources, reduction of energy consumption, development of the green economy, and the definitive establishment of a distributed generation model, which will particularly promote the development of energy communities. This model will allow, alongside achieving the goals set by the 2030 Agenda, to reach energy autonomy as much as possible.”
Energy communities are a strong point of regional policy: Piedmont was the first region to start this initiative, with the approval of a dedicated regional law. Since December 2020, provisions and incentives have been in place to develop collective self-consumption systems from renewable sources, and currently, energy communities are being successfully tested in 4 areas.
