Regional Councillor for Environment and Energy Matteo Marnati states that “we are only at the beginning of a journey that will lead us to triple this figure by 2030” and describes it as “a result that reflects a reality already geared towards the development of renewable sources, which will be further enhanced by the actions we have initiated to meet the European goals for 2030. It started with the approval of the Energy and Environmental Plan on March 15, which is based on four fundamental pillars: the development of renewable energy sources, reduction of energy consumption, development of the green economy, and the definitive establishment of a distributed generation model, which will particularly support the development of energy communities.
This model will enable us to achieve, in parallel with the goals set by the 2030 Agenda, the highest possible level of energy autonomy.” Energy communities are a strong point of regional policy: Piedmont was the first region to initiate this experience with the approval of a dedicated regional law. Since December 2020, regulations and incentives have been in place to develop collective self-consumption systems from renewable sources, and currently, energy communities are being successfully tested in 4 areas.
