Valle d’Aosta is the most efficient region for producing solar power. This is the finding of a study by Aceper conducted on a sample of 5,236 photovoltaic systems distributed across 17 Italian regions.
Piedmont is the region that produces the most electricity from photovoltaics in absolute terms, followed by Lombardy and Veneto. Valle d’Aosta is the most efficient region in producing electricity from the sun, followed by Emilia Romagna and Piedmont.
This emerges from a study by Aceper (Association of Renewable Energy Consumers and Producers), the association that brings together 10,000 renewable energy production plants, representing over 7,000 members with a total installed capacity exceeding 2 GWp. The study was conducted on a sample of 5,236 photovoltaic plants distributed across 17 Italian regions.
A region’s efficiency is determined by the ratio between actual photovoltaic production and expected photovoltaic production, where the expected production is estimated according to the official measurement tool PvgisVGIS (Photovoltaic Geographical Information System).
Aceper’s ranking places Valle d’Aosta at the top as the most virtuous region with 960,391 KWh (kilowatt-hours) actually produced and an expected production, according to PVGIS measurements, of 1,011,502 KWh, resulting in a ratio of 95% between actual and expected production. The national average is 65%.
The second spot goes to Emilia Romagna, with a ratio of 87%, preceding Piedmont (86%). With a percentage of 85%, we find Abruzzo, Liguria, and Lombardy. Veneto follows (84%), the third Italian region in production.
