The data emerged from research conducted by Aceper (Association of Renewable Energy Consumers and Producers), which analyzed a sample of over 5,000 photovoltaic systems located across 17 Italian regions. In the same ranking, Piedmont also placed third for “efficiency,” which measures the ratio between the energy actually produced and the expected energy output.

“This result highlights a reality already oriented towards the development of renewable energy sources, which will be further enhanced by the actions we, as the Piedmont Region, have initiated to meet the European goals for 2030,” commented Matteo Marnati, Regional Assessor for Environment and Energy. “Starting with the approval on March 15th of our Regional Energy Environmental Plan, which is based on four fundamental areas: the development of renewable energy sources, reduction of energy consumption, promotion of the green economy, and the establishment of a distributed generation model, which will particularly support the development of energy communities.” “A model,” the assessor added, “that will not only help achieve the objectives set by the 2030 Agenda but also aim for as much energy autonomy as possible.”

The regional government emphasized that energy communities are a key strength of regional policy. Piedmont was the first region to launch this initiative, with the approval of a dedicated regional law, a first in Italy. Since December 2020, regulations and incentives have been in place to develop collective self-consumption systems from renewable sources, and currently, energy communities are being successfully tested in four areas of the region.

“While we await the release of the decree for the establishment of energy communities,” the assessor concluded, “this data demonstrates our Region’s strong capacity to invest in photovoltaics: we are only at the beginning of a journey that will triple this figure by 2030.”
