Record numbers for Italian solar energy, unseen since the 2013 Conto Energia: +12,000 installations, totaling 1.6GW

Milan – Rome, January 18, 2023

In the first 9 months of 2022, the Italian photovoltaic sector achieved record numbers: 12,000 new installations, totaling 1.6 GW, a level of activity not seen since 2013, during the last Conto Energia. This is revealed by the latest statistical Outlook from GSE (InFotovoltaico), which also states that as of September 30, there are 1,140,000 installations in operation, a 12% increase compared to the end of 2021.

Nearly half of the installations belong to the industrial sector (accounting for 51% of the total installed capacity), followed by the tertiary sector (20%), residential (18%), and agriculture (11%). 35% of the installations are ground-mounted (covering 15,800 hectares), while 65% are on buildings, roofs, covers, etc.

This growth, following eight years of relative stability in the sector, affects all sizes of installations, all regions, and major cities in the country. Among them, Piedmont is the region that produces the most electricity from photovoltaics, followed by Lombardy and Veneto, according to research from the Association of Consumers and Producers of Renewable Energies (Aceper).

Among the provinces, Lecce stands out with a performance of 1,100 operating hours, averaging 4 hours per day.

However, there are also specific challenges and issues, especially for photovoltaic system owners and sector operators. This is revealed by research from Raptech (https://www.raptech.it/), a company operating in the Renewable Energy market for over 15 years, providing technology, technical IT support, monitoring systems, and asset management solutions for installations.

Thanks to the digital transformation of energy, it is possible to increase efficiency in managing photovoltaic assets. Asset management can involve a series of repetitive tasks that, if automated, can lead to remarkable improvements in both time and result quality. According to Raptech’s research, the time spent has been reduced by 80% to 95% for these activities. This increased efficiency also results in an almost total reduction in cash imbalances due to issues with contributions or energy sales.

For this reason, the company has long offered Remote Meter Reading on the market, a web-based tool on the proprietary R-Cloud platform, providing online access to all data and the ability to download in standard format. It performs daily readings of the “load curve” and all available records through GSE modems, with production values on a 15-minute basis, automatic comparison with the Enel Distribuzione Portal, and automatic control of GSE payments.

“Digitalization of energy,” confirms Marco Berliocchi, CEO and Cofounder of Raptech, “is an important step towards the energy transition as well as an essential tool for increasing the efficiency of producing companies.”
