According to data from a study conducted by Aceper (Association of Renewable Energy Consumers and Producers) on a sample of over 5,000 photovoltaic plants located in 17 Italian regions, Piedmont ranks first in the production of photovoltaic energy and third in “virtuosity,” which measures the ratio between actual energy produced and expected energy in terms of production.
The words of Matteo Marnati from Novara
“This result reflects a reality already geared towards the development of renewable energy sources, which will be further enhanced by the actions we, as the Piedmont Region, have initiated to achieve the European goals for 2030,” commented Matteo Marnati, Regional Councillor for Environment and Energy. “This started with the approval, on March 15th, of our Regional Environmental Energy Plan, which is based on four fundamental pillars: development of renewable energy sources, reduction of energy consumption, development of the green economy, and the definitive establishment of a distributed generation model, which will particularly promote the development of energy communities.”
“A model,” the Councillor added, “that will, in parallel with achieving the goals set by the 2030 Agenda, also help us to reach as much energy autonomy as possible.”
Energy communities are indeed a strong point of regional policy: Piedmont was the first region to launch this initiative with the approval of a dedicated regional law, the first of its kind in Italy. Since December 2020, regulations and incentives have been in place to develop collective self-consumption systems from renewable sources, and energy communities are currently being successfully tested in four areas of the region.
“While we await the release of the decree for the establishment of energy communities,” the Councillor concluded, “this data demonstrates the great capacity of our Region to invest in photovoltaics: we are only at the beginning of a journey that will see us triple this figure by 2030.”
