Turin – According to data from research conducted by Aceper (Association of Consumers and Producers of Renewable Energy) on a sample of over 5,000 photovoltaic plants located in 17 Italian regions,
Piedmont ranks first in the production of energy from photovoltaics and third in “virtuousness,” which is the ratio between actual energy produced and expected energy production.
“This result reflects a reality already oriented towards the development of renewable energy sources, which will be further implemented by the actions we, as the Piedmont Region, have initiated to achieve the European goals for 2030,” commented Matteo Marnati, Regional Assessor for Environment and Energy. “Starting with the approval of our Regional Energy Environmental Plan on March 15th, structured around four fundamental directions: development of renewable energy sources, reduction of energy consumption, development of the green economy, and the definitive establishment of a distributed generation model, which will particularly promote the development of energy communities.” “A model,” the Assessor added, “that will allow us, in parallel with achieving the goals set by the 2030 Agenda, to strive for energy autonomy as much as possible.”
Energy communities are indeed a strong point of regional policy: Piedmont was the first region to start this initiative, with the approval of a dedicated regional law, being the first region in Italy to do so. Since December 2020, regulations and incentives have been in place to develop collective self-consumption systems from renewable sources, and currently, energy communities are being successfully tested in four areas of the region.
“Awaiting the release of the decree for the establishment of energy communities,” concluded the Assessor, “this data demonstrates the great capacity of our Region to invest in photovoltaics: we are only at the beginning of a journey that will see this figure triple by 2030.”
